The Power of the United Voice:
The Liberal Party gained 4,160,101 votes more than they received in 2011. Where these additional votes originated from is more telling;
- Conservative Party - lost 218,787 votes to the Liberals.
- NDP Party - lost 1,038,124 votes to the Liberals.
- Bloc Québécois Party - lost 68,644 votes to the Liberals.
- New Voters - 2,834,546 voted for the Liberals.
In 2015 there was 2,872,198 additional voters from the 2011 election. Not a single vote went to any of these 3 Parties (Conservatives, NDP, or Bloc) not one vote. Besides the Liberal Party, the only other Party that gained votes from these additional votes was the Green that received 26,723 additional votes.
Over 200,000 Conservative Voters, PLUS over 1,000,000 NDP Voters, Plus over 68,000 Bloc Voters UNITED with over 2,800,000 New Voters to defeat the Harper Government. These 4,160,101 votes where NOT in support of the Liberals, but where united to DEFEAT Harper. Normally with 2,872,198 New Voters would be spread out among the 4 Parties, not so heavily UNITED to 1 Party.
The Liberal Party was seen as the only Party that could defeat the Harper government. Even over 200,000 Conservative supporters (Harper's Party) saw the Liberals as the only one that could defeat Harper. It is a unique instance when 98% of New Voters vote in a united block, along with supporters of the other Parties join the New voters to defeat a sitting government. This united voice of over 4,000,000 voters was done without any coherent organizing by a Party or any other group - the Voters themselves UNITED!
This type of Voter Unity is rare and difficult to achieve under our current FPTP electoral system. FPTP encourages fragmenting the Electorate into many small groups called Parties. We need a system that encourages Unity of the Electorate, so we can have our FULL VOICE.
Over 98% of the New Voters united to Defeat Harper!
It will be interesting to see the results in 2019.
This is why we have FOUGHT for the RIGHT TO VOTE.
So that the Electorate can direct the government in how we are to be governed.
The Electorate cannot do this if their Voice is muffled (FPTP) or divided (PR)!
